Position Overview:
The Senior Quality Assurance Manager is responsible for overseeing the facility’s Food Safety and Quality Management Systems, leading the QA department, and serving as the primary contact for audits, certifications, and risk management. The ideal candidate will be proactive, highly organized, and capable of guiding the business through industry standards, evolving regulatory requirements, and internal quality expectations.
Job Responsibilities:
- Lead the QA team, providing direction, support, and oversight of daily quality operations.
- Serve as SQF Practitioner and ensure compliance with GFSI standards, third-party audits, and customer requirements.
- Manage and continuously improve programs related to HACCP, FSMA, sanitation, allergen control, and environmental monitoring.
- Guide root cause analysis, corrective actions, and change control for product quality and food safety issues.
- Oversee incoming ingredient and packaging inspections, labeling verification, and finished product conformance.
- Support internal audits, regulatory inspections, and R&D trials with a focus on process validation and improvement.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Production, Sanitation, Maintenance, and Purchasing to drive quality initiatives.
- Monitor key quality metrics and report trends to senior leadership, ensuring transparency and accountability.
Skills, Knowledge & Abilities:
- Proficient in FDA/USDA regulations, SQF, HACCP, and GMP compliance.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to influence cross-functional teams and foster a culture of quality.
- Ability to communicate risk, food safety issues, and QA performance metrics to leadership.
Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Biology, or a related discipline.
- 5+ years of Quality Assurance experience in food manufacturing, with at least 3 years in a management or leadership role.
- Experience managing change control and continuous improvement within QA systems.
- HACCP Certification, PCQI (Preventive Controls Qualified Individual) Certification, SQF Practitioner Certification (or experience working in an SQF-certified facility), Lean Six Sigma or Quality Management certifications preferred.
Work Environment:
- Exposure to both the office setting and food manufacturing facility.
- Significant amount of time working at a computer station
- Occasional visits to various areas of the manufacturing floor
- Must wear required PPE while in all manufacturing areas.
- Moving parts and machinery are present in the plant.
Physical demands:
- Frequent sitting, standing, or walking.
- Occasional ability to lift up to 50lbs.
- Ability to physically perform functions of repetitive motion, grasping, lifting, pulling, pushing, reaching, crouching, kneeling, stooping, balancing, and climbing.
- Noise levels will vary, higher noise levels exist while in the plant operations areas.
